CHAMOMILE HAS SO MANY WONDERFUL QUALITIES...
Summer’s here, so that means it’s time to head outside and soak up the sun. But along with the all those hours spent outdoors during the summer season, there usually comes one inevitable thing: sunburn. Fortunately for all of us, there are plenty of ways using items around the house to cool the burning, itching, and peeling that come with damage from the sun.
Dried Chamomile, Rosebud & Apple Cider Vinegar Elixir
Why these ingredients? Rose petals are cooling, anti-inflammatory, and are wonderfully soothing on hot, irritated skin. Rose helps protect and heal skin from damage and has been used traditionally for aging skin and healing skin wounds and blemishes like scar tissue. If you have had one of these nasty sun burns that cause your skin to peel you will know just how damaging to the skin they are.
Chamomiles anti-inflammatory properties, and propensity for healing and soothing skin irritation make it a wonderful addition to this remedy.
Apple Cider Vinegar is cooling topically and takes the sting from the burn away instantly. How to make it This is a remedy that is best to make before hand. I had rose infused vinegar, and chamomile infused vinegar and just combined them in equal parts. You can make your own burn vinegar ahead of time easily.
- 1/2 cup chamomile flowers - dried
- 1/2 cup rose petals - dried
- 2 cups apple cider vinegar
- 1 pint mason jar
Directions: Put all of your ingredients in the mason jar being sure the herbs are covered well. Place a piece of plastic over the jar before putting the lid on - so you don't rust the lid. Shake well and let sit 4-6 weeks.
Strain well and store in a cool dry place. To use: Soak a piece of cloth like an old clean cloth diaper or kitchen towel in the vinegar, rinse thoroughly, then place it on the burn. Feel the soothing affects wash over your skin in relief. Flip the towel over when the side on your skin warms up. Re-apply as needed for pain/inflammation and to promote skin healing.
We hope you never need to use this remedy, but if you do I hope it helps you as much as it helps us!
